About

The National Museum of Ancient Art (MNAA), affectionately known as 'O das Janelas Verdes' for its green windows, is Portugal's largest and most important art museum. Set in a 17th-century palace overlooking the Tagus, it holds over 40,000 works spanning six centuries.

The collection is anchored by Nuno Gonçalves's monumental Panels of St Vincent (c. 1470), a polyptych considered the greatest work of Portuguese medieval painting. Alongside it you'll find Hieronymus Bosch's Temptation of St Anthony, Dürer engravings, and a spectacular gallery of Indian, Chinese, and Japanese artefacts brought back during the Age of Discovery.

A beautifully integrated garden-terrace overlooks the river and provides a peaceful escape between galleries — one of the finest spots in Lisbon.
