Sintra Forest Foraging

Sintra Forest Foraging

Hunt wild herbs and mushrooms in the mystical forests of Sintra.

About this experience

The forests of Sintra are unlike anywhere else in Portugal — perpetually damp from Atlantic mists, laced with ancient trails, and home to an extraordinary variety of wild plants and fungi. This foraging walk with a trained botanist explores the woods above the palace town.

You'll learn to identify edible mushrooms, wild herbs, berries, and roots — and equally importantly, what to avoid. The walk culminates in a small fire where you prepare and taste what you've gathered: mushrooms with wild herbs, perhaps bramble-leaf tea, whatever the season offers.

Transport from Lisbon is included. The walk is moderate in difficulty — forest trails with occasional steep sections. Waterproof boots recommended.
